Story Contest at Operation Exodus Inner City, NYC
There's a wonderful after school program in Washington Heights called Operation Exodus Inner City. They also have a Saturday Mentoring Program that reaches over 100 neighborhood children every week. As part of their efforts to boost the children's passion for literacy and imagination, Operation Exodus held a story writing contest, and I had the honor of telling the two winning stories this past week at the Friday assembly. One was titled "The Day I Shrunk my Mom", and the other was "The day I Became a Cartoon". They were a ton of fun to tell, and I had some great onstage help by the winning authors!

Back from the calming sounds of the ocean and Hurricane Danny! While away, I was able to work on two original stories that should be ready for telling soon! At the beach I for some reason became fascinated with the idea of creating and telling stories about tiny things, so you can guess that that is what one of my stories is about. The other springs from a childhood memory of a pair of shoes that I would wear EVERYWHERE!
Over the weekend, I was asked to be a regular storyteller at the Avenel Middle School Library. I'm excited about this because each month will have a different theme that the librarian will also be carrying into other activities in the library.

Last week I was at the Vacation Bible School of 5th Ave. Presbyterian Church. Along with the wonderful storyteller Beth Curry, I told a series of stories about how God uses water. Man, those kids were great! They came in everyday with a ton of energy and lots of amazing questions about the stories. After each story, we got to play games that related back to what we had just heard.
This week I'm spending some time at the beach listening to the waves and catching up on some writing. I've got some stories brewing that I'm excited about!
