Story Contest at Operation Exodus Inner City, NYC

There's a wonderful after school program in Washington Heights called Operation Exodus Inner City. They also have a Saturday Mentoring Program that reaches over 100 neighborhood children every week. As part of their efforts to boost the children's passion for literacy and imagination, Operation Exodus held a story writing contest, and I had the honor of telling the two winning stories this past week at the Friday assembly. One was titled "The Day I Shrunk my Mom", and the other was "The day I Became a Cartoon". They were a ton of fun to tell, and I had some great onstage help by the winning authors!

Celebrating World Folk and Fairytale Day at Avenel Middle School

I was delighted to be asked back to Avenel Middle School to help them celebrate World Folk and Fairytale Day. I love visiting Avenel! The library is always full of life, and the librarian there is constantly on the lookout for new ways of helping kids fall in love with literature. I, too, love watching kid’s eyes light up when they connect to a story and there’s few better places to see that happen than in a library!
